MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Dillon Dingler had three hits, an RBI and scored a run as the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 7-6 on Friday night. The Tigers’ 5-6-7 hitters — Colt Keith, Zach McKinstry and Dingler — combined for six hits, four RBIs and three runs scored. Detroit also took advantage of two errors to win for the sixth time in seven games. Will Vest (1-0) got the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota star Anthony Edwards was slapped with his NBA -high 18th technical foul of the season for complaining about a call Friday night, prompting an automatic suspension for the next game that the Timberwolves will need to win to improve their seed for the playoffs. Edwards was whistled for a personal foul while closely guarding Brooklyn’s Keon Johnson on the wing midway through the second quarter.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Michigan State junior forward Isaac Howard won the Hobey Baker award Friday as college hockey’s top player. The 21-year-old Howard led the nation in averaging 1.41 points per game and became the Spartans’ first player to win the award since goalie Ryan Miller in 2001, and third overall. Howard is from Hudson, Wisconsin, and was selected by Tampa Bay with the 31st pick in the 2022 draft.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Anthony Edwards scored 44 points, including 18 during Minnesota’s franchise-record, 52-point third quarter, and the Timberwolves beat the Memphis Grizzlies 141-125 on Thursday night in a game between teams fighting to avoid the play-in tournament. Julius Randle added 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolves, who broke open the game with the highest-scoring quarter in the NBA this season.
