For many locals like Ttori Johnson, 42, 510 Day is a movement. It’s a day when generations of Oaklanders and long-time residents come together to say they are “Still here, living for our city, fighting for our city,” said Johnson, who grew up in Oakland. The festival brings thousands of residents to Lake Merritt on May 10, a subtle nod to the East Bay’s area code, to celebrate the region.

Train service across BART’s entire system is suspended until further notice due to what the agency is describing as a “computer networking problem” and a “train control system problem.” BART issued the first alert around 4:24 a.m. today in a post on X. Due to a train control system problem BART service is suspended system wide until further notice. Seek alternate means of transportation.

Oakland has settled a lawsuit that accused city officials of breaking election rules in 2022 and violating public records laws, among other claims. On Tuesday, the City Council approved a $207,812 settlement with the Alameda County Taxpayers’ Association and Marleen Sacks, an attorney who has sparred with Oakland in previous legal disputes. The city also agreed to improve records retention and election procedures.
