One of Arizona’s most notorious prisoners was able to kill three fellow inmates last week because of significant security failures and missed warning signs, according to a union leader and an advocate. Ricky Wassenaar is the “sole suspect” in the April 4, 2025 deaths at the Tucson prison complex, according to a statement from the Arizona Department of Corrections. Wassenaar is infamous for his role in a 2004 hostage crisis that lasted two weeks.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department said supervisors are reviewing the actions of officers who are accused of “dumping” a distressed man on the side of the road and driving away. Officers left the man near 12th Avenue and Jefferson around 10:30 p.m. on March 21. Witnessed recorded the situation and provided cell phone videos to ABC15.

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department has suspended three officers who were involved in the violent and sudden arrest of a deaf man with cerebral palsy, according to an advisory released by the department. Each of the officers will receive an unpaid 24-hour suspension. Tyron McAlpin’s arrest grabbed national headlines after ABC15 broadcasted video of the sudden and violent encounter.
