CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina man says the justice system failed him, leaving him to languish behind bars for nearly six years on serious rape and assault charges, never even having his case go to trial. All felony counts were eventually dismissed but questions remain about how something like this could happen. It is a lengthy list of serious charges. Seventeen in all, including first-degree rape, forcible sex offense, assault, and soliciting a prostitute.

WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Wilson County man is behind bars charged with an overdose death. The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office arrested 35-year-old Devonty Pitt and charged him with felony aggravated death by distribution of controlled substances. The sheriff’s office began investigating back in May when deputies and detectives responded to the overdose death of 33-year-old Cierra Parker Barnes.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Thousands of East Carolina University students are moving back to campus this week which may cause some busy roads and delays. ECU Police Deputy Chief Chris Sutton said there will be 5,000 students moving back to ECU on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Roads such as Charles and Greenville Boulevard, along with 5th, 10th and Elm Streets, will see the most traffic.
