WI craft showThe Dannevirke Sports Club hall was a sea of crafts on Saturday, October 19 when the Tararua Federation of Women’s Institutes hosted its bi-annual Craft Show. Four sets of tables stretched across the room featuring an enormous range of craft items including machine-sewn, handcrafted, knitted, crocheted, handspun and woven.

    Joyce McIntyre cuts the three-tiered iced birthday cake made by Woodville Stephanie Twigge at her 100th birthday celebration on July 21. When planning began for Joyce McIntyre’s 100th birthday, the centenarian designed most of it herself, right down to the music. Her official birthday being mid-week, it was decided to hold the celebration on July 21 at Woodville’s Fire Station lounge as it meant all her family could be present, a point she emphasised in her speech of thanks.

    The Holy Trinity Hall was decorated to imitate the Caribbean Islands on Saturday night and it attracted some nefarious pirates. “What year was Diet Coke introduced to the World?“ was the tie-breaker that gave the winner of the Treasure Island Mid-Winter Dinner Quiz the spoils - those sitting at the table labelled St Kitts - on Saturday night in the Holy Trinity Hall. The contestants were fed and interrogated by some friendly locals.

    Yukimi Brown with her Free Standing design created for the Dannevirke Floral Art Group at the 2022 Spring Festival. Dannevirke Community Board is looking for local organisations to join in on the Spring Festival. Set to run from September 1 to October 31, the board wants to produce a comprehensive brochure with all the participants and events for the two months which of course takes time.

By Dave MurdochA unique exhibition of artwork with the theme Cops and Robbers was opened at Woodville’s Rinitawa Galleries this month, by Manawatu Area Police Commander Inspector Ross Grantham. The exhibition shows 40 works created by 16 artists, all with connections to Police.
