NEWBURYPORT — With so many of the city’s downtown lampposts exhibiting signs of extensive rusting and decay, the volunteer-run City Improvement Society has hired a painting company to give about 100 of them a new coat of paint or two. Dating back to 1974, the lampposts getting tender loving care can be found in Market Square, State Street, Inn Street and Pleasant Street.
