Gloucester Daily Times

The Gloucester Daily Times is a celebrated morning newspaper that has been a staple in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and the surrounding Cape Ann communities — including Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea — for over 125 years. Founded as an independent daily in 1888, the Times later joined the Essex County Newspapers group in 1952, which was established by Philip Saltonstall Weld, a former publisher of the International Herald Tribune who acquired newspapers in Gloucester and Newburyport. In a significant innovation in 1958, the Times became the first afternoon daily to release its Saturday edition in the morning. The newspaper has also earned the prestigious title of New England Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category from the New England Newspaper and Press Association in 1998, 2008, and 2013. Currently, the Times, along with its online platform gloucestertimes.com and the affiliated Cape Ann Magazine, is part of the North of Boston Media Group. This group includes three other daily newspapers: The Eagle-Tribune, The Salem News, and The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as four weekly or non-daily publications: Andover Townsman, Carriage Towne News, Derry News, and Haverhill Gazette. The North of Boston Media Group operates under CNHI, LLC, which manages over 250 newspapers and related publications from its headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama.

Despite a competitive, 11-8 setback to Cape Ann League power Pentucket on Monday afternoon, the Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team remains in great position to make a real run in the looming playoffs. Excluding Tuesday’s clash at North Reading (an 11-8 Manchester win) , the Hornets checked in comfortably at No. 9 in the latest MIAA Division 4 power rankings, with fellow CAL rivals Ipswich (No. 2), Hamilton-Wenham (No. 6) and Pentucket (No. 7) all slightly ahead of them.

STONINGTON, Maine — Virginia Olsen has pulled lobsters from Maine’s chilly Atlantic waters for decades while watching threats to the state’s lifeblood industry mount. Trade imbalances with Canada, tight regulations on fisheries and offshore wind farms towering like skyscrapers on open water pose three of those threats, said Olsen, part of the fifth generation in her family to make a living in the lobster trade. kAm%92E’D H9J D96 H2D 6?4@FC2865 =2DE >@?E9 H96? !C6D:56?E s@?2=5 %CF>A D:8?65 2?
