Gloucester Daily Times

Gloucester Daily Times

The Gloucester Daily Times is a celebrated morning newspaper that has been a staple in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and the surrounding Cape Ann communities — including Rockport, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea — for over 125 years. Founded as an independent daily in 1888, the Times later joined the Essex County Newspapers group in 1952, which was established by Philip Saltonstall Weld, a former publisher of the International Herald Tribune who acquired newspapers in Gloucester and Newburyport. In a significant innovation in 1958, the Times became the first afternoon daily to release its Saturday edition in the morning. The newspaper has also earned the prestigious title of New England Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category from the New England Newspaper and Press Association in 1998, 2008, and 2013. Currently, the Times, along with its online platform gloucestertimes.com and the affiliated Cape Ann Magazine, is part of the North of Boston Media Group. This group includes three other daily newspapers: The Eagle-Tribune, The Salem News, and The Daily News of Newburyport, as well as four weekly or non-daily publications: Andover Townsman, Carriage Towne News, Derry News, and Haverhill Gazette. The North of Boston Media Group operates under CNHI, LLC, which manages over 250 newspapers and related publications from its headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama.

Truth be told, it really doesn’t matter who Boston’s first round opponent is; barring unforeseen significant injuries, the initial series is more of a formality than anything else for the heavily favored defending champs. kAmqFE 2>@?8 E96 t2DE’D 7@FC A=2J\:? Concern over the way regulators came up a plan to manage Atlantic cod as four stocks instead of two is colliding with worries over whether the measures will be put in place by NOAA Fisheries by May 1, the start of the 2025 fishing year. The Massachusetts Department and Fish and Game and others are sounding the alarm that without regulatory action by federal regulators, groundfish vessels could be left tied up at the docks after April 30. kAm~?
