The Erie-Meadville metro area also dropped in national rankings for clean air. Neighboring counties, including Ashtabula and Chautauqua, experienced similar declines in air quality grades. Erie County is no longer an honor student when it comes to the American Lung Association's annual State of the Air Report. The county earned a C in the association's 2024 report, published April 23, for both 24-hour particle (soot) and ozone pollution (smog).

The driver was hospitalized in stable condition, and the building was evacuated as a precaution. A structural engineer will inspect the building before it reopens to patients and staff. Saint Vincent Hospital evacuated one of its medical office buildings April 22 after a valet drove a car into the building. The accident occurred in the early afternoon at the Hardner Building, 2315 Myrtle St., Saint Vincent officials said in a statement.

A free MMR vaccination clinic was held on April 22, with more planned throughout the county. One dose of the MMR vaccine is 93% effective against measles, while two doses offer 97% protection. Erie County health officials said they believe a recent measles outbreak that has infected eight people might be contained. They are the first reported measles cases among county residents since 1991 and are part of a nationwide outbreak that has infected more than 800 people in 24 states so far in 2025.
