In digging out of a $5 million operating loss in 2023, N.C. Wesleyan President Evan Duff said the university has been able to reduce that deficit without any cuts to personnel. kAmx?

State officials are advising residents to be smart givers in the wake of Hurricane Helene. As rescue and relief efforts continue in western North Carolina, N.C. Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall is reminding North Carolinians to do their research and to give wisely to make sure their generosity is getting to those in need. "We’ve all seen heartbreaking scenes of devastation and loss in western North Carolina," Marshall said in prepared remarks as part of a press release Monday.

The United Way Tar River Region has set a new date for the Community Campaign Bike Ride, which was postponed due to impending inclement weather. The new date is Oct. 4. The five-mile ride starts at the Rocky Mount Event Center. The finish line address is the regional United Way office located at 2501 Sunset Ave. in Rocky Mount.
