NEWCASTLE, Maine — In an old church in downtown Newcastle, a choir meets once a week for most of the year - though there's no talk of church. On a rainy Tuesday in late April, Beth Preston grinned as her throng assembled - 65 members strong - at the pulpit. Some left walkers near the pews, but they had plenty of energy to give to their weekly performance.

GARDINER, Maine — Talent comes in many forms, and something doesn't need to hang in a museum for you to know it's special. In early April, I opened my inbox and saw an email from a Keegan Companion. He introduced himself as a 24-year-old from Bath and said he worked with a unique art medium. "I can make anything you can think of out of pipe cleaners," he wrote. I was intrigued. Each contained paper listing a month, a day, a county, and a letter of the alphabet. It was an offer: Let's see our state together.

SOLON, Maine — At Colby College in Waterville, Professor Véronique Plesch is the authority on art. The Swiss native is the chair of the acclaimed school's art department. She has traveled the world studying, appreciating, and creating-- but nothing hits her in the heart quite like frescos. Sitting in her office on a cold February afternoon, Plesch explained frescoes have been around for centuries and stand out. Artists paint onto wet plaster on walls, sealing the images once dry.

It's silly; it's a bit sloppy; and it's a seriously big party. I roamed around my first Reggae Fest. https://t.co/G4EENMHIcF
