As a Queensland shire braces for river rises and flooding, almost a quarter of its flood-monitoring cameras are offline after they were deliberately shot at or vandalised. Balonne Shire, in south-west Queensland, has 19 cameras in flood-prone locations to monitor water levels. Images from the cameras are published to council's disaster dashboard, available to authorities and the community.

Experienced male motorists have been involved in all nine southern Queensland flooded road fatalities since 2021. Police believe impatience and overconfidence are leading to motorists choosing to drive into floodwater. Police have launched their holiday road safety operation. Experienced drivers in southern Queensland are not heeding the "If it's flooded, forget it" message.

Public telephones — once slated for obsolescence as mobile devices appeared in every hand — are increasingly becoming a last lifeline for the nation's most vulnerable people. Four women living with disabilities have received the gift of a lifetime with a brand new house for them to share. The new build, nestled in a quiet suburb of Toowoomba in southern Queensland, was funded by a large donation from a local philanthropic family, as well as funding from the Endeavour Foundation. It means the four National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) recipients will be able to live mostly independently, one of them for the first time in her life.
