An example of a leaky dam aimed at preventing flooding (Image: submitted) Three applications to install upstream flood defences in the Rossendale Valley have been approved. The Manchester-based Community Forest Trust submitted the proposals at three sites aimed at reducing the risk of floods in towns and villages further downstream. The streams affected run into Whitewell Brook, which passes through Lumb, Whitewell Bottom and Waterfoot before feeding into the River Irwell.
