    An “institutionalised” thief is back behind bars after he broke into a cottage to steal alcohol 72 hours after his release from prison. Robert Merchant, 56, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted entering a house in Stoneywood, Aberdeen, without permission to pilfer items. Merchant – a habitual thief with a long record of previous convictions – was caught on CCTV.

    An Aberdeen foster parent has been jailed after he was caught secretly filming young girls with a hidden spy camera. Alan Moir appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where he admitted hoarding a collection of voyeuristic videos and images of children on his personal devices for more than nine years. The court heard Moir, 62, used a secret “spy cam” to record three young girls in varying stages of undress and while they were unaware they were being filmed.

    A man has been found not guilty of raping a female student in an Aberdeen flat. Stuart Kennedy, also known as Mitchell Kennedy, was on trial at the High Court in Aberdeen accused of raping and sexually assaulting the 23-year-old woman at a student accommodation building on the city’s Pittodrie Street on November 16 2022.
