Nique Clifford scored 24 points, and No. 2 seed Colorado State beat fifth-seeded Boise State 69-56 on Saturday in the final of the Mountain West menβs basketball tournament at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Rams made a Mountain West championship-record 12 3-pointers for their first title since 2003. Colorado State (25-9) will make its second straight NCAA Tournament appearance on a 10-game win streak.

The top ranked quarterback prospects for the upcoming NFL draft were at UNLV recently. Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami (Florida) worked out at Fertitta Football Complex this week. The duo was featured in a YouTube video produced by Well Off Media and engaged in some playful trash talk. βConsistency, thatβs what he lacks,β Sanders said of Ward as the video opens. βThey gave you a completion percentage award and all you did was throw checkdowns and bubble screens,β Ward replied.

The World Series of Poker Main Event could be without one of its biggest stars this summer. Phil Hellmuth, the all-time leader in WSOP tournament victories, announced late Monday on social media he will not play in this yearβs $10,000 buy-in No-limit Texas Holdβem World Championship. The 17-time WSOP champion said the Main Event has become an βendurance testβ because of its grueling schedule and unfairly favors younger players. βItβs just too tough,β Hellmuth said.

βMiamiβ John Cernuto, who cashed in more poker tournaments than any player in history, died late Monday at his Las Vegas home at age 81. His death was announced by friends and family on social media. Cernuto had been battling colon cancer and was in hospice care. Born Jan. 10, 1944, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Cernuto earned three World Series of Poker bracelets, which are awarded for tournament victories.
