    As many as 400 people are feared dead after once-in-a-generation flooding hit Spain, with the southeast of the country braced for yet more heavy rain. Some 202 people are known to have died in the flash floods and at least another 200 are missing in the Valencia province. Hundreds of troops have joined the search for survivors and bodies. Several areas of Valencia and Castellón, as well as the south of Tarragona, are under an orange warning from Aemet, Spain’s meteorological agency.

    Hopes have all but faded for finding survivors after flash floods wrought massive destruction and claimed at least 95 lives in southeast Spain. It is feared that the death toll could rise substantially because the exact number of missing people is unknown. Margarita Robles, the defence minister, said she was not optimistic about the death toll stabilising. She said teams on Thursday would start combing through the mud and debris with sniffer dogs.

    At least 95 people,including four children, have died after flash floods devastated southeastern parts of Spain in one of the worst natural disasters in the country’s modern history. The widespread flooding was caused by torrential rainfall, with reports claiming that as much as a year’s worth of rain fell in eight hours in the Valencia region. Video of the damage in Almeria and Valencia showed swollen rivers of floodwater overwhelming streets and sweeping away vehicles.
