The 1998 movie opens on Omaha Beach as American forces launch D-Day, the invasion of France that would turn the tide of World War II in Europe beginning on June 6, 1944.

The Auburn Police Department is asking the public to avoid an area of the city early Sunday evening due to an "active crime scene" there. The department posted on Facebook at 4:20 p.m., asking all unnecessary traffic to avoid the area of Washington Street near West and Wall streets. The public is not in danger, the department added. Auburn Police Chief Matthew Androsko told The Citizen he does not have any further information to share at this time, as the situation is fluid.

The New York State Parole Board has granted an early release to the man convicted of killing an 18-year-old Auburn student while driving drunk in the summer of 2016. In a news release Tuesday, Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said Dain Schneider, 41, was released April 30 "in the face of strong opposition from this office and the community."Schneider killed student Chloe Calhoun on East Lake Road in Owasco, just outside Tom Thumb Drive-In, on July 17, 2016.

An Auburn theater is one of 134 recipients of more than $86 million in state funding to strengthen its arts infrastructure. Auburn Public Theater will receive a $50,000 grant from the New York State Council on the Arts' Capital Projects Fund for exterior building and sign repair, according to a news release.
