    GENEVA — An event that has turned into one of the area’s biggest fundraisers was closing in on a sellout as of Tuesday. The annual Middle Finger 5K run and walk to benefit Thrive to Survive, a local cancer organization, is scheduled for a 6 a.m. start Saturday morning on the west side of the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, near Routes 5&20. Thrive to Survive, which has raised more than $1 million since it was founded in 2012, supports adults with cancer in Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties.

    CANANDAIGUA — Finger Lakes Community College will host week-long camps this summer for students who will enter grades 6-9 this fall. Camps will be held at the campus centers in Geneva, Newark, and Victor in July. Called STEAM camps, each has science, technology, engineering, art, and math elements. Camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $250. A limited number of scholarships will be available, based on household income. Students may attend more than one camp.
