LYONS — The 2025 Lyons softball team has proven that it is the best in the Wayne County league. The Lions also have shown that they can hang with anyone in the Finger Lakes as well. After defeating Palmyra-Macedon and Waterloo earlier last week, Lyons topped Mynderse Academy 10-3 on Saturday afternoon at Lyons High School.

Ever since Brooke Bonetti stepped foot on the field for the first time for the Keuka College women’s lacrosse team, she has made an impact, improving through every step after that. Bonetti recently concluded her stellar four-year career with the Wolves on April 26 at SUNY Brockport. It was a game that witnessed Bonetti record her team’s lone goal against a good Brockport squad. That goal marked the 87th in her career with Keuka and a whopping team-leading 42nd goal during her senior season.

PALMYRA — Going into Wednesday night’s highly-anticipated Finger Lakes girls lacrosse matchup, both the Geneva Panthers and Palmyra-Macedon Red Raiders were riding undefeated records in the league. The Panthers had not lost in any of their first seven contests while the Red Raiders were going in as winners of their past four games. Pal-Mac took control right away and stormed its way to a commanding 16-1 victory over Geneva at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School.

With both sides only having three seniors each, their non-league meeting on a wet, muddy Saturday morning at Marcus Whitman High School witness both sides taking strides into the right direction.

It has been a solid first collegiate season for former Penn Yan Academy star pitcher Brady Bouchard at the Division I level. The right-hander has appeared in 10 games for the Binghamton University Bearcats during his freshman season. He has started half of those games, racking up two wins and 23 strikeouts. “It has been overall pretty good,” Bouchard wrote in an email to the Times about his first season at the collegiate level.

CLYDE — In 2024, the Clyde-Savannah baseball team began building a program headed in the right direction. Things started off a little slow in 2025 as the Golden Eagles were winless after three games. Since then, however, Clyde-Savannah could be finding its rhythm with two consecutive wins, including a 7-1 home victory over rival Lyons on Tuesday afternoon. “I’ll never give a win back because they’re hard to get,” Clyde-Savannah head coach Dan Bonafede said after his latest victory.

PENN YAN — It had been 6,554 days since the last time the Penn Yan Academy girls lacrosse team had defeated the Canandaigua Academy Gray Wolves going into their most recent meeting on Saturday morning. Well, the dry spell is finally over. Junior Ruby Berry led all scorers with five goals and her Mustangs hung on to beat the Gray Wolves 9-8 at Penn Yan Academy, her program’s first victory over Canandaigua since May 10, 2007.

GENEVA — The Geneva Panthers girls lacrosse team won only three times during the entire 2024 season. Just a handful of games into this 2025 season, they already have topped that win total. The Panthers won their first four games of the season, and extended the unbeaten streak to five straight with a commanding 17-6 victory over the combined program Newark/Midlakes Screaming Eagles on Wednesday evening at Geneva High School.
BOYS WRESTLING: Finger Lakes East All-League selections

Palmyra-Macedon senior Luke VanGorden and Williamson/Marion/Sodus junior Zachary Kuelling each reached the state championship semifinals during the 2024-25 boys wrestling season. Both of these stellar wrestlers earned first- team honors in this year’s Finger Lakes East all-league selections after terrific seasons. Pal-Mac had three wrestlers earn first-team. VanGorden made it at the 190-pound weight class alongside fellow 190-pounder Wayne Central senior Avery Bustamante.
