NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Middlesex County grand jury has decided not to file criminal charges against Woodbridge police Officer Hector Rivera for his alleged use of a non-fatal chokehold during a Feb. 11, 2023 domestic violence arrest. The grand jury’s decision came on April 9 after the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office presented evidence under the direction of the NJ Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity & Accountability.

EDISON, NJ - The South Plainfield High School girls lacrosse team was back on the field on Tuesday to take on Edison High School. South Plainfield lost to Edison 9-7. Emily Lopez netted a hat trick after recording her 100th career goal on April 19. Lopez is now at 504 goals and counting. The senior also won four draw controls in the game. Amber Olsen had a big game too, for the Tigers with one goal, three assists and two ground balls. Megan Mehl had a goal and two ground balls for South Plainfield.

SPOTSWOOD, NJ - Carter Cumiskey smacked a double to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Spotswood High School varsity baseball team a 1-0 victory over Middlesex High School. Ryan Orth was on base with a single and scored the game-winning run to end eight innings of scoreless ball. Cumiskey pitched eight innings for the Chargers, giving up six hits and striking out seven. Will Buchan picked up the victory on the mound, pitching the final inning for Spotswood.
