JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is adding a new K-9 to its unit and focusing on some of the county’s most vulnerable people. Pepper, a one-and-a-half-year-old bloodhound, will lead the Pepper Project. The K-9 was purchased by ElderSource, an aging and disability resource center, to be given to JSO.

Leaders of the Museum of Science and History say its doors will officially close on September 1st. Visitors will have one last chance to visit the museum on Jacksonville’s South Bank on August 31st. “It’s a complex decision that balances how you deliver on your mission, how you look after the organization’s finances, how you take care of the team, and how you continue to serve the community while you are closed,” MOSH CEO, Dr. Alistair Dove, said.

Federal Aviation Administration officials say they are opening up the airspace over Jacksonville. The administration lists Florida as the fastest growing market for air travel, and with the summer season approaching, Jacksonville International Airport leaders say opening up the airspace will allow for more planes to fly and hopefully decrease the number of flight delays.

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Family and friends are remembering 38-year-old Joshua Curtis as a hero after he drowned saving family members. Now his family said they’re remembering him as a hero in life and death. They held a celebration of life for him Tuesday evening at the Hilliard VFW. Action News Jax spoke to Curtis’ mother, Dawn Wall, who says Joshua died rescuing his niece and his 6-year-old son from a current during a trip to Fernandina Beach.
