ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Lost graves at the Pinehurst and San Sebastian cemeteries are being newly discovered. The West Augustine Improvement Association believes the cemeteries are two of the oldest historically Black cemeteries in Florida. The Abandoned African American Cemeteries Grants, a state-funded initiative, awarded $39,000 to the WAIA as the group works to establish the cemetery’s original boundaries.

Thomas Lee Gudinas, 51, was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. following a lethal injection at Florida State Prison near Starke, said Bryan Griffin, a spokesman for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. Gudinas was convicted of the May 1994 killing of Michelle McGrath.
