Teenagers and young adults in Brooklyn Park will soon have a much larger place to hang out, exercise and learn job skills. Brooklyn Park city leaders officially broke ground this week on what will be a new and improved teen center, known as The Wood. The $10 million expansion of the Zanewood Recreation Center will include a new indoor gym, a Best Buy Tech Center, a workforce development office, art space and other amenities.

Every city needs a good watering hole, and for 10 years, OMNI Brewing has been just that for folks in Maple Grove. “You know patio, beer, nice weather, live music, can’t really go wrong,” said Nick Kleppe, OMNI’s marketing director. You can also add pizza into that mix. Two years ago, Bear Paw Pizza became a permanent fixture at the brewery, and if you come in on Tuesdays, you can take advantage of their Toppings & Tunes’ special.

If you’re doing a home remodel project, chances are, you’ll need new tile. Choosing the right style of tile requires some thought. “This is a permanent decision. It’s not paint. It’s not carpet. This is gonna go in, and it’s gonna stay,” said Cab Lolmaugh, CEO of The Tile Shop. “So I want something that’s gonna look good.”The Tile Shop, which is headquartered in Plymouth, has 142 stores spread across 31 states. At the moment, Lolmaugh says home remodels are driving sales.

A local nonprofit dedicated to fighting food insecurity in the northwest metro held one of its largest fundraising events this week. Tuesday night in Maple Grove, Rogers-based CROSS Services held its 18th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. Several hundred people came out to the Church of the Open Door for an evening of live music, art, and local cuisine, all in an effort to help struggling families. CROSS Services hoped to raise $35,000.
