BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Severe storms made their way across the Brazos Valley last night causing road closures, damage and even school closings and delays. This is now the third wettest April in our 142 years of record keeping in the Bryan College Station area. Some areas like Madison County even saw tornado threats. Shelly Butts, the Madison County Emergency Management Coordinator, said they are fortunate the damage wasn’t worse. “We were very lucky. We haven’t lost any lives.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Travis Henderson of Huntsville, Texas was honored recently with the Judy Burd Award during the Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards Ceremony. The award was presented by Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott at a ceremony in Austin. Some of the art will make it’s way to the BHS International Showcase in May. Rusty Surettee was recognized for his deadline editing of a shooting in Downtown Bryan. BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - ERCOT has recently asked power generators to delay or cancel planned outages ahead of high temperatures this week. In some places, it’s forecasted to get to 90°. Hugh Daigle, a professor at the University of Texas with the Cockrell School of Engineering, said the planned outages are part of a large, complicated system. “It’s kind of like a fancy car. Focus at Four: TEA discusses computers grading students STAAR written answers

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Students are in the middle of the state’s STAAR testing this week. In the past, these written answers have been hand-graded by individuals, but now they will be graded automatically by computers. Jose Rios with the Texas Education Agency joined First News at Four on Monday. He said that the engine uses samples selected by educators and TEA staff and uses the patterns of the writing samples to create an algorithm.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Bryan High School Culinary Team was the champion at last night’s Taste of Aggieland Cooking Competition for the third year in a row. The five students who competed took home the Silver Fork after being given just 30 minutes to prep their meal, and 30 minutes to cook it.

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A new CDC study found many women aren’t getting regular mammograms because they can’t afford it. Researchers found women with health-related social needs were 20% less likely to get recommended mammograms. That includes experiencing food insecurity or not being able to pay for healthcare. Brandi Stewart, a nurse practitioner and representative from HealthPoint joined First News at Four on Wednesday.
