Eater is a network of food and dining websites owned by Vox Media. It was established in 2005 by Lockhart Steele and Ben Leventhal, initially focusing on the dining and nightlife scene in New York City. In 2009, Eater expanded to include a national platform, and by 2012, it was covering nearly 20 cities. Vox Media acquired Eater, along with two other sites from the Curbed Network, in late 2013. By 2017, Eater had approximately 25 local sites across the United States, Canada, and England. The site has been honored with four awards by the James Beard Foundation.
