If you grew up anywhere in New Jersey, there was a pretty good chance you had at least one magical week each summer at one of Jersey's many great shore towns. For us, it was Atlantic City during my very early years, then it was Wildwood. I recently took a ride along Beach Avenue and Ocean Avenue in Wildwood Crest to see how many of those kitschy motels from the 1960s are still there.

Our state is known for making the top of lists with not-so-good stigmas attached. Like the highest property taxes or car insurance rates, etc. You know the deal. Of course, New Jersey is famous for many of its foods, and when you think of subs, you might think Jersey Mike's Subs, which is an international chain now. Just about every town or county in New Jersey has at least one place all the locals rave about. Maybe it’s the food or the atmosphere, or maybe it’s both. It could be the clientele or just the “vibe“. I found such a place last month in Clinton. They call it the “Cheers“ of Clinton. It’s Riley and Jake’s Tavern on Route 31 in Clinton. Dennis Malloy / Townsquare MediaI was looking online for a good place to eat in that area after trout fishing. I am a sucker for a good French onion soup.

It’s gotten so unaffordable to live here in the Garden State that many of us are looking for more economically feasible places to live. Of course, property taxes are a big issue, but other costs of living like food, housing, and income taxes are a big factor as well. Lots of people have looked into the usual hotspots of the Tampa Bay Area, Vero Beach, the Orlando area, the Villages, which is the largest adult living community in the country, or further down the West Coast in the Fort Myers area.
