BELOIT, Wis. (WREX) — The Beloit Sky Carp hosted a sports business seminar for high school students Tuesday as they opened up a new series with the Quad Cities River Bandits. Almost 300 students participated, checking out all aspects of how to run a sports organization, from sales to food to merchandise to gameday operations. It's a chance to expose the students to career paths they might not otherwise have thought about in the sports industry.

ROCHELLE (WREX) — Ten years ago, the Thiravong family was at a school function when they had to hustle to the school's basement. A tornado was making its way through Rochelle. "A neighbor told me, 'I don't think you have a home,'" Watsana Thiravong says. The family lives in Minnesota now, but was relatively new to Rochelle when the tornado ripped through the community. Thiravong says the community really came together during that time and showed its spirit.

BELVIDERE (WREX) — Summerfield Zoo owner Rick Anderson loves his animals. He knows that day ten years ago could have been a lot worse. "We were really lucky," Anderson said. "The only thing we lost were two birds out of all the animals we have here. So that was pretty amazing."One of the Arctic wolves still at the zoo survived the April 9, 2015, storm. "They had a little minor damage to their enclosure but they were still in it," Anderson said.
