The May Day Bank Holiday got off to a steamy start as vintage enthusiasts gathered at the Border County Vintage Show two-day show on Vauxhall field. All the sights and sounds of yesteryear were on display, with vintage cars, tractors and military vehicles all making an appearance in the main ring. In the line of vintage cars were a pair of fibreglass Bond Bugs (a 750 and 850) as well as a Sunbeam Rapier.

The members of Llantilio Crossenny WI were taken on a fascinating and mysterious journey through British hedgerows at their April meeting. Tim Kaye from Herefordshire-based ‘Cultivating Learning and Nature’ (CLaN for short) reminded us that hedgerows are wondrous places full of fungi, mosses, insects, moths, herbs, flowers and birds as well as the more obvious trees and shrubs.

Four gardens in Monmouth will be opening as part of the National Garden Scheme on 18th May. Also in the newsThey have selected Monmouth & District Foodbank as their local charity for the open day. Homemade teas and cakes will be on sale at two of the gardens, North Parade House (Hereford Road) and St John’s (Glendower Street) with the Foodbank receiving the proceeds. Foodbank manager Martin Howlett says ‘we are delighted to be chosen as this year’s local charity.

On Sunday, May 18th, four of Monmouth’s historic town gardens are opening from 11.30am to 5.30pm under the banner of Monmouth Open Garden and as part of the NGS (National Gardens Scheme) in aid of NGS charities, including Marie Curie, MacMillian Cancer Support as well as charities which support gardens and gardeners. Gwent police seize delivery vehicle for five offences including no insurance

A delivery vehicle stopped by Gwent Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit in the Raglan area was found to have no business insurance policy in place. Also in the newsAccording to police records, the vehicle also had no insurance and was being driven on a provisional licence. After examination of the vehicle, it was found to have an insecure load, and two tyres were below the required tread depth of 1.6mm. The vehicle was seized and the driver was reported and will be in court for all five offences.
