    The May Day Bank Holiday got off to a steamy start as vintage enthusiasts gathered at the Border County Vintage Show two-day show on Vauxhall field. All the sights and sounds of yesteryear were on display, with vintage cars, tractors and military vehicles all making an appearance in the main ring. In the line of vintage cars were a pair of fibreglass Bond Bugs (a 750 and 850) as well as a Sunbeam Rapier.

    The members of Llantilio Crossenny WI were taken on a fascinating and mysterious journey through British hedgerows at their April meeting. Tim Kaye from Herefordshire-based ‘Cultivating Learning and Nature’ (CLaN for short) reminded us that hedgerows are wondrous places full of fungi, mosses, insects, moths, herbs, flowers and birds as well as the more obvious trees and shrubs.

    Four gardens in Monmouth will be opening as part of the National Garden Scheme on 18th May. Also in the newsThey have selected Monmouth & District Foodbank as their local charity for the open day. Homemade teas and cakes will be on sale at two of the gardens, North Parade House (Hereford Road) and St John’s (Glendower Street) with the Foodbank receiving the proceeds. Foodbank manager Martin Howlett says ‘we are delighted to be chosen as this year’s local charity.
