    TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (WBRC) - Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat says the major construction project on Interstate 59 has been underway for several months and should be complete by early 2026. The project is a road expansion on the interstate between I-459 and Chalkville Road. The Alabama Department of Transportation will add an additional lane to both sides of the interstate. “It was really a 16 month project.

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Interstate 59 South in Birmingham is shut down after a tractor-trailer crashed near 4th Avenue South. The overturned truck caused all lanes of Interstate 59 to close as crews worked to clear the roadway. Destiny McKeiver in the WBRC Traffic Center says drivers needing to get around the wreck can take Roebuck Parkway to 1st Avenue to get back onto the interstate. There is currently no word of any injuries. WBRC has reached out for more information.

(WBRC) - With children out of school, there is a spike in car fatalities involving young drivers between Memorial Day and Labor Day, according to experts. “This is the time of the year where we see an increased volume of drivers on the roadways, like from 16 to 19 years old,” said Alabama State Trooper Reginal King.

    HOOVER, Ala. (WBRC) - Construction for the I-459 interchange project in Hoover is set to begin in 2025. Ken Grimes, the City Manager for Hoover, says the project has been discussed since 2008. As Hoover continues to grow in population, city leaders say they want to alleviate possible traffic troubles. The bill for the entire project will be $120 million. The City of Hoover will pay $61 million toward the project. The Alabama Department of Transportation will pay the rest of the bill.
