Morristown Nissan celebrates new owners with Morristown Area Chamber

The Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to honor the newly named Morristown Nissan which is now under new ownership. Joining the chamber was Morristown Nissan staff, elected officials and community supporters. As the ribbon cutting ceremony kicked off, Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain expressed his excitement for the new ownership. “I am excited about what’s going on here at Morristown Nissan,” he said.
Library to host seasonal events

The Morristown-Hamblen Library has several events planned for the month of December for all ages. To kick off the month, on Saturday Dec. 2nd from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be the Friends of the Library Christmas Book Sale. The sale is aimed to help aid in costs that come with the many programs the library provides. There will be a variety of books, magazines, movies, records, CDs, puzzles, games, and audio books for all ages for sale.
Top of the Class: Jaime Greene named Hamblen County Principal of the Year

The Hamblen County School System announced Dr. Jaime Greene, Lincoln Heights Middle School principal, is the 2023-2024 Principal of the Year. Greene has dedicated 24 years of her life to education and has served many different roles in Hamblen County Schools. She taught at Lincoln Heights Middle for 7 years before moving on to work for the Hamblen County Department of Education as the district’s instructional Coach/Curriculum Specialist for grades 6-8.
Lakeway Area gears up for Christmas with themed events

Christmas time is here in the Lakeway Area evidenced by upcoming holiday themed events. On Saturday Dec. 2 the city of Morristown will host its Christmas on the Market and City Tree Lighting Ceremony. Beginning at 2 p.m. the Christmas Market will begin at Morristown Farmers Market. There will be food trailers, local vendors, and children’s activities. Santa will arrive on the First Fire Truck and children will be able to take pictures with him.
Ace is the Place: Officials celebrate ground breaking for new hardware store

Wednesday morning KVAT Food City management, and local officials broke ground on its newest Curt’s Ace Hardware store at S Liberty Hill Rd. in Morristown. Last year, Food City joined the Ace Hardware family with the launch of its new line of Curt’s Ace Hardware stores. Before the groundbreaking took place, both city and county mayors conveyed their gratitude for the new location and Food City President and CEO Steve C. Smith shared information about the company.

Car crashes into Russellville Intermediate, forces school closing

Monday evening a vehicle crashed into Russellville Intermediate School causing significant damage which resulted in the school being closed for the remainder of the week. At approximately 4:30 p.m. a vehicle was traveling east on East Andrew Johnson Highway when the driver suffered a medical episode causing the vehicle to drive off the left side of the road. The vehicle veered up an embankment and on to the National Guard Property.
Superior Transmission opens in Morristown

Morristown natives Eli Lane and Thomas Black opened a new transmission shop as a result of the growing area. Lane, a graduate from Morristown-Hamblen High School East attended Universal Technical Institute in Florida. After graduating he returned to Morristown where he has lived since. He works as a Maintenance Technician for Old Dominion, but after seeing much growth and new people coming to the area, he decided to open his own business with Black.
Following turkey fundraiser, MATS turns attention to Warming Station

As the nights begin to reach below freezing temperatures, MATS welcomes the return of its warming station. MATS opens its doors each night that the temperature reaches below freezing (below 32 degrees). This week the station will be open Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 for anyone in need of warm shelter. The shelter posts weekly updates on its Facebook page on what nights the shelter will be open.
HOLA Lakeway taking advantage of new space

It has been three months since HOLA Lakeway moved into its new location and the organization is taking advantage of its space. When the nonprofit announced it was moving, Executive Director Betsy Bonilla Jimenez-Hurst explained that she was eager to utilize the extra room. “It’s really great to have so much more space so we can hold bigger events, improve our current programs and then add new programs to HOLA Lakeway so we better serve the community,” she said.
