TOUTLE, Wash. — In a quiet town nestled off Highway 504, the only grocery store for miles is back — bigger, brighter and full of heart. Drew’s Grocery reopened its doors this week in Toutle, more than three years after a fire gutted the longtime family-run business. The store, which has served the rural community since 1937, is now housed in a new 10,080 square-foot building — nearly 10 times the size of the construction trailer it operated out of during rebuilding.

SALEM, Ore. — Oregon lawmakers took a major step Tuesday toward loosening restrictions on law enforcement’s use of drones, passing a bill that would give police broader authority to deploy unmanned aircraft during emergency responses, patrol operations and more routine calls for service. Senate Bill 238 passed with bipartisan support on a 24-3 vote. The three dissenting votes came from Republicans. The measure now heads to the Oregon House for consideration.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — On Feb. 22, 2023, a heavy snowstorm blanketed the Pacific Northwest. It was a snow day for most everybody, but for Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Drew Kennison, it was a training day as a member of the SWAT team — and it was the day everything changed. “We were driving like 25 miles per hour, and all of a sudden the roof of my police car caved in,” Kennison recalled.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A cyberattack that struck the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) early Wednesday has shut down vehicle inspection stations across the state, leaving drivers confused and scrambling to renew registrations. As of Thursday, DEQ said no personal data was accessed, but systems will remain down until further notice. That includes vehicle inspection stations, which are expected to stay closed until Monday.

Oregon DEQ tells me they believe there was not a data breach and that no personal information was accessed. They don't know how the criminals accessed their systems, but something under investigation. DEQ Emissions stations will remain closed through the weekend.
