Hamilton’s longest street has a deep and rich history and is enjoying a resurgence as a diverse dining district. Is Barton Street part of the tapestry of your life? Was it ever? I was married on Barton, shopped on Barton, family members worked (and ate lunch) on Barton, rode the Barton bus, and favourite birthday cakes were purchased on Barton. Oh, and there was the circus and hockey.

Stoney Creek offers an array of dining options, from pubs, sushi and pasta in Old Town along King Street to iconic slab pizza, Memphis BBQ, authentic Mexican and fine dining from one end to the other. From roots in the late 1700s, and designations such as township, town and (in 1984) city, Stoney Creek was amalgamated into the City of Hamilton in 2001. I have not become a stranger to Burlington, but its downtown is fast becoming a dining community I can barely keep up with. Once a regular at Locust Street’s Pane Fresco (now closed) I watched the construction of a nearby condo.

Ancaster has a lot going for it, including some great places to eat and shop for food in its most historic neighbourhood. This is part of an ongoing series looking at the local array of dining districts. Founded as a town in 1793, Ancaster has a rich history and became part of the new City of Hamilton in 2002 when the five neighbouring municipalities were amalgamated.
