The development, spread across multiple properties between 218-244 Old Main St., would represent intensification on the street currently containing largely single-detached townhomes.

Newmarket mom Justyna Miesowicz said she did not want to send her kids for the last week of school. Her two children attend Notre Dame Catholic Elementary School in Newmarket, in grades 1 and 5. Although classes were still in session, she said the onset of a heat wave over the weekend led her to keep her children home June 23. The lack of air conditioning in the school made the heat too concerning, she said.

York Region has identified three regionally owned properties in Newmarket that could potentially be developed into affordable and emergency housing, while no such sites have been proposed in Aurora. A local First Nations’ activist says he was charged with causing a disturbance after being arrested at Midland’s Butter Tart Festival. Johnny Hawke, who is a member of Beausoleil First Nation (BFN) member, says he was peacefully protesting the province’s Bill 5 and Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop's decision to support it at Neezhoday Park Saturday when he was approached by Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers.
