    Berks Arts, the organization that programs the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, Reading Blues Fest and other local arts and culture events, has announced several organizational changes. On Monday, June 24, during its annual meeting, the Berks Arts board voted to accept Justin Heimbecker’s resignation as executive director, and, at the same time, voted to appoint Tish Davis as the new executive director. Heimbecker submitted his resignation after serving for three years.

    The Reading Theater Project and JCWK Dance Lab have announced the 2024 In Nature’s Studio, an outdoor performance event at the Reading Public Museum Arboretum, will take place July 21 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. It is free to attend, thanks to grant support from the Reading Musical Foundation and the United Way of Berks County.     As the school year ends, many of you are likely looking forward to spending time with young grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors or other cherished young people this summer. Our students have worked hard throughout the academic year and will take these next few months to relax and enjoy some time off. This is also an exciting time for me because, at the end of each school year, I award two special recognitions to students who stand out as exemplary individuals in my district.

    Four new shows have been announced for Reading’s Santander Arena and Santander Performing Arts Center: Mexican hitmaker Ivan Cornejo on Sept. 6 at the arena; Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: In Concert on Sept. 25 at the performing arts center; Cirque Dreams Holidaze on Dec. 3 at the performing arts center; and comedian Joe Gatto on Dec. 27 at the performing arts center. Tickets are on sale at santander-arena.com.
