A court has heard a northern New South Wales man may have assault charges against him upgraded. Robert James Booth, 56, appeared in Lismore Local Court on Tuesday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray, following the death of Andrew Brownlee, who was allegedly attacked while walking his dog at Kyogle on Sunday. Magistrate Michael Dakin told the court police statements alleged Mr Booth threw a punch at Mr Brownlee as he walked along Irwin Street.

Another rain event and flooding from inland Queensland are expected to affect the north and west of NSW. The heavy rain predicted to fall on already sodden catchments could lead to fast river rises and flash flooding. The NSW SES says communities in the north and west of NSW should prepare for another round of floods and isolation.

The body of a 68-year-old man has been found in the surf at a popular tourist beach in northern New South Wales. It is understood the man went swimming at 4:30pm on Friday at Bluff Beach, Illuka, north of Grafton but after he failed to return to shore an hour later, a family member contacted emergency services.

Police believe a damaged car could help solve the mystery of a man missing for over year from his property in northern New South Wales. Leslie Keating, 63, was last seen at a property on Ramornie Station Road at Ramornie, north-west of Grafton, on October 20 last year. His daughter Briannon Keating travelled from Victoria to her father's property in November after he failed to make his regular phone call to her during his trips into town.
