Another rain event and flooding from inland Queensland are expected to affect the north and west of NSW. The heavy rain predicted to fall on already sodden catchments could lead to fast river rises and flash flooding. The NSW SES says communities in the north and west of NSW should prepare for another round of floods and isolation.

A woman and two girls have been arrested and two teachers taken to hospital after an incident at a school in northern NSW. Police arrived at Armidale Secondary College at 10:30am after reports two girls, 11 and 13, had assaulted staff after trying to attack another student. Four staff were treated for minor injuries. Two were taken to Armidale Hospital for assessments. Both girls were arrested. Police say the 13-year-old also assaulted an officer.

Police have formed a strike force to investigate the suspicious death of an eight-year-old boy near Tamworth in north-west NSW. Officers were called to a home at Moore Creek on Tuesday evening where they found family members performing CPR on the child. He was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital by ambulance but could not be revived. Detectives from Oxley Police District have set up Strike Force Fitzgerald to investigate the death.
