ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals continues on weekends through the rest of June. ABC Tri-Cities Morning Anchor John Jenco took Good Morning Tri-Cities on the road to check out what’s happening at Fort Watauga. This weekend, the shows are on Friday and Saturday night. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m. For the last two weekends in June, Liberty! will also run shows on Thursday nights, in addition to Friday and Saturday.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The David Crockett High School Future Farmers of America’s (FFA) Nolichucky Blooms first on-site project took place on Wednesday. Through Nolichucky Blooms, students and volunteers help with planting and mulching needs around homes impacted by Hurricane Helene. “They presented us with this idea, and I think we were all just over the moon about it,” Everybody had such a big commitment. We just wanted to jump in and start this.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The 25th “Little Free Library” opened in Kingsport on Monday. Brightspeed, Little Free Library, United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) and other community members cut the ribbon on the new box located near the playground at Borden Park (901 Lamont Street). “The summer is super crucial to learning,” UWGK Education and Impact Manager Kelsie Dulaney said.”You hear a lot about the summer slide, kids kind of backtracking on all the progress they’ve made through the school year.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Local veterans departed on Friday morning on an Honor Flight of the Appalachian Highlands (HFAH) trip hosted by Antioch Baptist Church. The missions are provided at no cost to veterans and give them an opportunity to visit memorials throughout Washington D.C. to honor their service, sacrifice and valor. HFAH President Michelle Stewart said 19 veterans are going on the trip this weekend, including one Korean War veteran and Vietnam veterans.

CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Carter County house’s wall was torn through on Tuesday after a tree trunk crashed through it. First responders were at the scene Tuesday afternoon when News Channel 11 arrived. The home on Lick Skillet Road in Stoney Creek had sustained significant damage with visible wreckage. According to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller alerted first responders to a possible explosion that damaged a home on Tuesday morning.
