The event featured themed experiments, crafts, games and a simulated prehistoric forest. “It might be a day off from school, but we’re going to have them have fun and learn at the same time,” Heather Watson, Hands-On! MILLIGAN, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students from throughout southern Appalachia participated in the 31st annual Blue Ridge Undergraduate Research Conference (BRURC) at Milligan University on Thursday. More than 14 institutions were represented at the event, and around 150 students participated in sessions and presentations on Milligan’s campus. Milligan University’s Director of Undergraduate Research Joy Drinnon said the event gives students in the region the opportunity to come and present their research.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Blended Pedaler, a locally-owned smoothie and superfoods shop, opened a Kingsport location Tuesday. The Kingsport site, located at 1825 North Eastman Road, makes the Blended Pedaler’s fifth brick-and-mortar spot. “It has grown at a crazy amount of speed,” General Manager Emily Linderme said. “We have gone from Dollywood to now bringing a truck to Chattanooga, to expanding to our fifth brick and mortar store and a drive-thru in Bristol. It’s crazy.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Around 300 people attended the annual Johnson City Prayer Breakfast on Monday at Freedom Hall. The event aims to bring together the community from all denominations to unite in prayer, worship and fellowship. “It is such a joy to see so many coming out from all sides of Johnson City, the Tri-Cities,” organizer Amy Bolton said.

STEAM Day, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, included various community partners displaying interesting ways they use STEAM. Towne Acres Principal Josh Simmons said science is a favorite among Towne Acres students.
