LEE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Lee County Board of Supervisors announced a proposed 34% property tax increase on Wednesday, the day after a large crowd filled its meeting space in opposition to possible school closures. The board is scheduled to vote on the final 2025-26 budget June 25 following a 6 p.m. public hearing. “The board’s goal is to supply adequate funding to all aspects of the budget while respecting the needs of taxpayers,” County Administrator Rob Wright told News Channel 11 Wednesday.

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A rockslide and flooding has closed Interstate 40 in Cocke County near the North Carolina/Tennessee state line, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). TDOT spokesperson Mark Nagi posted on social media that the rockslide had occurred near mile marker 450 in Cocke County. Nagi stated the area affected is roughly one mile from the state line. DAMASCUS, Va. (WJHL) — Debris and downed trees left by Hurricane Helene will be cleared from part of the Virginia Creeper Trail starting Wednesday. BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — Ground was broken Wednesday morning at the new Goodson Hills community development in Bristol, Virginia. Beyond Housing’s newest residential community is located on Eason Lane by the organization’s EnVision Center. The project site is the former home of the Bonham Circle units, which were demolished in 2018.
