lA pair of music festivals coming up this year are receiving a helping hand from a provincial program designed to boost tourism in Ontario. A southern Ontario man standing trial for second-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 29-year-old Adrian Richardson has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge before the trial in Thunder Bay could conclude. Telique Ricketts of Toronto pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge of manslaughter with a firearm on Tuesday, the day his second-degree murder trial was scheduled to resume after opening last week.

Assault trial begins for police officer

After having one assault charge dismissed earlier this year, a Thunder Bay Police Service officer is now standing trial on a second separate assault charge from an incident in 2016. Staff Sgt. Michael Dimini pleaded not guilty to one count of assault at the start of his trial that began on Monday at the Thunder Bay courthouse. Crown attorney Vlatko Karadzic said the case is about Dimini's use of force during an interaction with an individual in October of 2016.

Thunder Bay city council will have another opportunity to approve a location for the proposed temporary shelter village and this may be their last chance if they are to receive funding contingent on meeting a July construction deadline. City administration will be presenting a report to city council on Monday recommending 80 temporary shelter village units be located at the Kam River Heritage Park.
Accused pleads not guilty in murder trial

A Kingston man charged with second-degree murder in connection to the 2022 death of 37-year-old Antoine Bouchard has pleaded not guilty. The trial for Joshua LeBlanc opened at the Thunder Bay courthouse on Tuesday before Justice Danial Newton. LeBlanc was originally slated to stand trial by jury but on Tuesday re-elected to be tried by judge alone. The charge relates to an incident the afternoon of Jan. 26, 2022 at a south-side Thunder Bay residence.

A festival that celebrates francophone language and culture across the Northwest is receiving a new look this year to reflect its renewed spirit and expanded programming. The Centre francophone de Thunder Bay announced on Thursday that the Franco-Festival that has been held nearly every year since 2007 will now be known as Festival Bonjour.
