    An officer with the Ontario Provincial Police in Pikangikum First Nation who forced a fleeing man to the ground, resulting in a broken clavicle, will not face charges, the Special Investigations Unit has concluded. The incident occurred on the morning of Feb. 19 in the community located about 220 kilometres north of Kenora. Officers were called to a residence by a woman requesting the 22-year-old complainant be removed from the home after breaching several domestic assault-related bail conditions.

    An organization that provides palliative care is being recognized for its work at ensuring everyone, including those who may not have a home to call their own, receive the services they need at the end of life. Hospice Northwest is the first recipient of the new Equity in Action Award created earlier this year by Mount Pleasant Group and Hospice Palliative Care Ontario. The award is meant to highlight work being done to promote better access to palliative care in communities across the province.

On Saturday, the ALS Society of Canada is hosting its annual Walk to End ALS at Boulevard Lake in Thunder Bay.

    The Special Investigations Unit has terminated a probe into the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service that was started after a man collapsed while in custody in Wunnumin Lake First Nation. The investigation followed the arrest of a 36-year-old man in the community located approximately 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay. Officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service responded to a residence in February of this year when a family member said the complainant was not wanted in the home.
