By Doug La RocqueNYVT MediaGRANVILLE – Tom McGurl, who has headed up the Granville Central School District since 2017, announced at the Jan. 13 meeting of the school board that this will be his final year with the district. McGurl has tendered his resignation effective June 30, the end of the school year. As to why he is leaving, McGurl said only he is retiring and did not elaborate. The board is discussing the process to replace him.

By Doug La RocqueNYVT MediaMARCY – The NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) inbdicates four more people have been suspended without pay in relation to the alleged beating death of inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility, just west of Utica. The three corrections officers and a nurse join the 13 others already suspended. One corrections officer named in the incident has since resigned.

Granville Police DepartmentDec. 1411:30 a.m. Police were informed a wallet had been found near the entrance to the Granville High School gymnasium. The wallet was empty, with no cash or identification. Noon. Officers responded to a Rawson Avenue residence in response to a report of criminal mischief. The person who made the report said zip ties securing her privacy fence appeared to have been cut.
