LOS ANGELES - A federal appeals panel appeared sympathetic toward a claim that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has failed in its duty to veterans but also raised concerns that a trial judge may have overstepped his authority in a broad order requiring the agency to build more housing on its West Los Angeles campus. "When you look at things that have occurred on this property, I struggle with how some of the things the VA did benefited veterans at all," presiding Judge Consuelo M.

There’s not a lot of questions in Ye Olde Mailbag but they’re extensive, so there’s that. And since we/I hope to keep this little endeavour going all summer, hopefully you’ve got things on your minds. Enjoy this. Hi, Doug. Congratulations on surviving a disappointing season! Been a while since we’ve had two losing seasons in a row. Hard to half-fill the half-empty glass! Some questions for you:1) The Portland game was another one that demonstrated that we lack size.

Of all the things that have emerged from a Raptors season that began circling the bowl in December and was basically flushed away in January, the progress of four rookies has been the most pleasant surprise. Against all odds, the foursome has coalesced into a promising collective that might help ease the transition from a woeful year — and make no mistake, a second straight 50-loss season is woeful — to a much more optimistic future.

It'd be a good time to start loading up Ye Olde Mailbag for the weekend. Offerings emailed to askdoug (at) thestar dot ca are welcomed.

I know a thing or two about the construction of the end of roster for last place teams. You tend to fill them with “break glass in case of emergency” guys. Not pitchers you look at first in the first weekend of the season

Just a couple of ex-Raptors bookended history

From the stats that mean nothing but are just weird department: Miami's Davion Mitchell has scored exactly 12 points in each of his last five games. The only other player to do that -- exactly 12 points, five games in a row -- was Benoit Benjamin in 1988.
