People in Frankfort hope petting zoo will re-open after Mayor's announcement

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets is recommending the closure of the TPA Park Petting Zoo—a longtime staple in the Frankfort community. This recommendation follows a March 3rd inspection report from the United States Department of Agriculture, which found that 16 animals had died over a three-month period. Many in the community hope the zoo will eventually reopen. Nora Thatcher, who has been visiting the zoo for over 60 years, often brings her grandchildren.

One of those witnesses, Ben Hinman, spoke to News 18 about what he saw that day. “I chose to stand there and film him as best I could, and kind of be a barrier between him and everyone else,” Hinman said. He recorded a video of the man with the rifle, later identified as James Jordan.

Thirty-year-old Timothy Bulow had his first court hearing in White County on Monday at 1 p.m. News 18 spoke with a mother who asked to remain anonymous. "So when this whole situation came about, it was not really a surprise to anyone," said a Twin Lakes mother. Her daughter had Bulow as a teacher two years ago. The Monticello Police Department arrested Bulow on charges of child seduction on April 3rd.

Executive director Misty Barnett says her hope springs staff is devastated. The House Springs home catching fire Wednesday morning around 5:30 am. Serving as a home for those impacted by sexual assault. Barnett saying six children and six adults inside at the time of the fire. All making it out safely. "The intensity of the rain and the wind, was very scary I guess a little bit," said John Corns. The Corns' home lost power around 5 p.m. It took over three hours for it to come back on. The Corns are one example of the thousands of Duke Energy customers who were impacted by the over 300 power outages Sunday evening.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — "Tears came after bedtime," said Karen Reckered, mother of four in Tippecanoe County. Reckerd says she was in shock when she walked to her backyard Sunday evening, after hearing tornado sirens in her Lafayette neighborhood in Red Oaks. Wind knocked over a tree, destroying Recker's backyard around 4:15 p.m. Sunday. Reckerd's four little boys playing on the slide 45 minutes before the tree fell. "It wasn't a loud sound.
