Answer: According to records kept by the City Clerk's Office, Appleton has 43 businesses that are licensed to sell electronic vaping devices and related products. Many of them are convenience stores.

Declaring it the lesser of three evils, the Neenah Common Council voted 8-1 Wednesday to enact a $30 annual wheel tax starting in 2026. The revenue from the wheel tax, estimated at $812,250, will help pay for street improvements and sidewalk infill projects. Neenah will join a growing list of cities with wheel taxes, including Appleton, Chilton, Green Bay, Kaukauna, Manitowoc, New London, Oshkosh and Sheboygan. Two other revenue-generating options were considered alongside a wheel tax.

The Fox River locks system will open for the season on May 17, and Appleton lock 1 will remain open for two additional hours on Saturday evenings so boaters can access downtown Appleton businesses. In addition, the locks will operate on all summer holidays. In the past, the locks were closed on the Fourth of July. The 2025 season comes with higher prices. A season pass will increase from $100 to $150, and a day pass will increase from $10 to $15.

The Appleton Common Council and the City of Appleton are being sued for denying liquor licenses for a bar attempting to open at 823 W. College Ave. Delaire's LLC and its agent, David Boulanger, both of West Bend, filed a lawsuit in Outagamie County Circuit Court to request a judicial review of Appleton's proceedings and to overturn of the council's denial of the licenses.
