As simple as building a boat ramp or procuring a seaworthy offshore maritime vessel, can it deliver positive benefits to the Grand Turk boating community and the public at large? There’s no ideology intended in this suggestion; the goal is achievability and yes it will. There is no downside, only obvious benefits. Let’s stop the promises and just make it happen. An ancillary, but equally important benefit is to build a dock so boaters can properly service their vessels.

Culture is the soul of a people—it shapes identity, fosters unity, and anchors communities through trials and triumphs. In the case of the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), culture has historically been rooted in respect, resiliency, a gritty determination, reverence for the rule of law, and above all, a deep respect for human life. Somewhere along the way, that strong cultural foundation has begun to crack. The truth is, our culture has been fractured for quite some time.

By Ed ForbesTurks and Caicos, April 10, 2025 – I felt compel to put pen to paper on this matter once again. You don’t expect to slam your brakes in paradise. But in Grand Turk, it’s becoming routine. Donkeys roaming on the side of the roads, darting into traffic or packs of feral dogs guarding the neighborhoods. Tourists freeze as animals charge across roads. This isn’t just island charm anymore—it’s an unfolding dilemma. I’ve had near-misses myself. And I’m not alone.

There was a time when knowing someone’s address simply meant knowing their last name. But times have changed. With shifting demographics and an influx of new residents, that informal system no longer works. Today, many of us don’t even know our neighbors’ last names—let alone how to direct emergency responders to their homes in a crisis. That’s about to change. A new initiative led by Hon. Saunders, in partnership with Google Maps, is tackling this issue.
