Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation currently has 12 open positions for game wardens as deer gun season gets underway. “It’s probably the highest it’s been in a long time,” said Nathan Erdman, chief of the law enforcement division for the Wildlife Department, of the dozen openings. This hunting season, the game wardens in the surrounding counties where there are vacancies will have to cover more ground than usual, he said.

After listening to public comment from anglers opposed to the change, commissioners this week voted to table the issue until additional studies could be done. Currently, there is no daily limit on the number of native nongame fish that are legal for bow anglers to shoot. Native nongame fish in Oklahoma that are most targeted by bow anglers are gar, buffalo and carpsuckers.

After listening to public comment from anglers opposed to the change, commissioners on Monday voted to table the issue until additional studies could be done. Currently, there is no daily limit on the number of native nongame fish that are legal for bow anglers to shoot.
