    ALTON — A shooting early Sunday morning in Alton left one person dead. In a press release from Alton Police Sgt. Andrew Pierson, officers responded at 5:51 a.m. on Sunday to the 2000 block of Agnes Boulevard in response to a report of a male who had been shot. According to the report, officers located Green lying in the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound.

    GLEN CARBON — Musical duo The Buckhannon Brothers will perform at the Glen Carbon Centennial Library, located at 198 S. Main St., at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3. Dennis and Curtis Buckhannon make up the group. The Buckhannon Brothers frequently perform in St. Louis as well as around east central Missouri and southern Illinois for square and line dances. They, along with other musicians, teach and call old-time square dances as well.

    EDWARDSVILLE — The West End Station, located at 620 St. Louis St. in Edwardsville, will show off the Edwardsville Route 66 display starting Sunday, June 1 at 10 a.m.From 1927 to 1964, the brick building at St. Louis and West streets, also known then as Route 66, catered to untold numbers of visitors and travelers from near and far as an automobile service station. Once Route 66 no longer cut through Edwardsville, the West End Service Station took on a new role as a dental office.

    ALTON — Alton has a new Public Works Director after Wednesday night's Alton city council meeting. The council voted in longtime city employee John Mitchell to the director role in a 6-0 vote. Martha Pfister, who is in charge of Alton's second ward, was absent from the meeting. Article continues below this adMitchell takes over for Mike Parsons, who retired in April. According to Mitchell, he has been an employee of the city for just over 30 years.
