CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Medical professionals are urging people to heed the warnings and limit their time outdoors during this oppressive heat. WakeMed Hospital says 41 people have been hospitalized since June 1st. Three of the patients treated for a heat-related illness were children. ABC11 News stopped by Downtown Cary Park and found that people are steering clear of being outside. There were not that many people out under the brutal sun.

ROLESVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The man charged with shooting at Rolesville police officers appeared in a Wake County courtroom on Tuesday. The judge ordered Gabriel Walker, 30, held without bond on three counts of attempted first-degree murder. Walker also faces nine other counts, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government officer. Walker could get life in prison if convicted.

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham Police Department (DPD) will make an announcement Tuesday about a new department program. The new program will play "a key role in strengthening community connections and enhancing public safety efforts," according to DPD. More details will be shared in a news conference scheduled for 12 p.m.This announcement comes less than 12 hours after there was a shooting on Fayetteville Road, where two teenagers were injured.

Rent Café now finds that one in 11 millionaires are renters and the City of Oaks specifically has seen a 27 percent rise in millionaire renters between 2019 and 2023. Keller Williams Realtor Erica Sizemore says these clients are drawn to luxury buildings with all the bells and whistles, and they want the ability to quickly leave when career opportunities arise.

MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Indian community will be gathering to honor the lives lost in the Air India crash, which killed more than 240 people. Officials said one passenger survived the crash on the plane that was bound for London. The vigil will take place at the SV Temple of North Carolina, and will start with a 2-minute moment of silence for the victims, followed by Hindu chants and a prayer from the priest.
