Two Brazilian films with a successful career on the international festival circuit shared the main prize at the 26th edition of Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival (Festival do Rio) on Sunday night (October 13). In a tie, Marcelo Caetano’s Baby and Pedro Freire’s Malu have won the best fiction feature award from Premiere Brazil, the main competition section which screened more than 50 local films this year.

With his latest documentary Pictures Of Ghosts, Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho delivers his most intimate film to date. A diary-style look at cinemagoing culture in his hometown of Recife, in the northeast of Brazil, Filho journeys through his own memories, utilising archival photographs and footage from his youth. The first stop is the apartment where Filho lived for close to 40 years and shot several of his early no-budget movies, made with the help of friends and neighbours.

ITV Studios-backed Italian production outfit Cattleya has teamed with writers Leonardo Fasoli and Maddalena Ravagli to co-found Dedalus. Rome-based Cattleya has previously worked with Fasoli and Ravagli on shows such as Gomorrah, ZeroZeroZero, The Immortal and Django.

Source: Warner Bros. Discovery Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is to roll out its Max platform in 22 countries in Europe from spring 2024, followed by launches in France and Belgium later in the year. However, there was no news about plans for the UK market where HBO has a licencing deal with Sky. The launches were announced during a Mipcom keynote today by Warner Bros Discovery’s (WBD) international head Gerhard Zeiler, alongside SVP head of streaming EMEA Leah Hooper Rosa.
