    A repeat offender who went on a two-year shop-lifting spree across Dublin will spend no more time in prison after her sentence was backdated to when she entered custody. Linda Byrne (45), of Tymon North Gardens, Tallaght, Dublin 24, was sentenced to three months in prison at Tallaght District Court today – but the final month was suspended, while the sentence was backdated to April 3, when she was first taken into custody.

    A teenager who stole clothing and jewellery from shops in The Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght has been given a suspended sentence. Cassandra Lingurar, (19) of Virginia Hall, Belgard Square West, Tallaght, Dublin 24, appeared before Judge Michael Connellan at Tallaght District Court, where she pleaded guilty to theft on July 5, 2024. The court heard that Lingurar entered the New Look store, placed €310 worth of clothing into a bag and passed all points of payment without paying.

    Judge Anne Watkin described the man’s conduct as “a serious and intimidating” violation of a court order during sentencing at Dún Laoghaire District Court. The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the woman and their children, had pleaded guilty to making a phone call and sending a message just days after the protection order was granted. He was convicted of a second breach involving a confrontation in a Dublin car park, having denied this offence.

    Amy Mongan (25), of Mount Olive Road, Kilbarrack, Dublin 5 admitted stealing €1,387 worth of cosmetic creams and beauty products from Boots in The Square Shopping Centre, Tallaght, on September 21, 2023. The theft was uncovered after staff checked CCTV in October and saw Mongan leaving the store without paying for the items, which the court heard couldn’t be resold. Gardaí recognised Mongan on the footage and she later handed herself in at Tallaght Garda Station, where she was arrested.
