(WNEM) - You may be one of the travelers who encountered the congested Zilwaukee Bridge detour on your way back home over the Memorial Day weekend, but will you still have to worry about that hiccup by end of summer? FLINT, Mich. (WNEM) - Genesee County was not spared from Mother Nature’s wrath, and for one Flint woman, the cost of cleanup is too much to bear. DeEtta Bright, a mother of four, lives on Buckingham Avenue and tells TV5 that a massive tree fell right at her front door when storms blew through mid-Michigan late Thursday night. “It was like this loud noise, like a demolition, like somebody blowing a building up,” Bright said. She believes lightning caused the tree to split.

SAGINAW, Mich. (WNEM) - Hundreds of people were still without power in mid-Michigan on Sunday, May 18, following overnight storms on Thursday. Tornado warnings were issued in Gratiot, Midland, Saginaw, and Bay counties late Thursday night, May 15, into Friday morning. Friday evening, the National Weather Service confirmed that two EF-0 tornadoes had touched down in the TV5 viewing area overnight.

KOCHVILLE TWP., Mich. (WNEM) - Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) will have new curriculum options for its students when the 2025 fall semester begins. Friday, May 9, the SVSU Board of Control approved three new academic offerings that include a master’s degree, bachelor’s degree and a graduate certificate. According to the university, a new dual program will allow students to complete two master’s degrees in health administration and public health at the same time over a three-year span.

CASEVILLE TWP., Mich. (WNEM) - Two environmental services boats were rescued yesterday, May 7, about a half mile northwest of Caseville Township’s Sand Point. Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson said central dispatch received a distress call at roughly 1:15 p.m. from a worker on an out of state environmental company’s pontoon boat. The worker’s boat and another company boat were doing environmental sampling when they ran aground and got stuck in shallow water.

BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) - In about one week, those who use Bird scooters to get around in Bay City will no longer be able to. In a press release from the City of Bay City, it says the electric scooter rental company has notified the city that it will be discontinuing service and removing all scooters by May 16. The city says the move for Bird is not do to ridership enthusiasm and community engagement, rather, part of a “broader realignment” of Bird’s operations in multiple cities.
