SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Most airports around the United States operated smoothly as new REAL ID requirements took effect Wednesday because travelers without the updated document were still allowed to move through security easily. Those without the IDs were given pieces of paper informing them that going forward they would need to present REAL ID or other federally accepted ID for air travel within the U.S. It includes a QR code travelers can use to see a list of acceptable identifications.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - Eric Harnum recounted the terrifying moments that took place on Lake Avenue in Manchester, New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon. He says he jumped into action to save an 8-year-old boy who was being mauled by a dog. “I saw the kid come over the fence and the dog [grabbed] him,” said Harnum. “The dog was doing his job, protecting his property, but he was mauling that child to death.”“It was heartbreaking, it was so sad,” said Rebecca Meattey, who ran over to console the boy.

LOWELL, MASS. (WHDH) - A body was recovered from a car in a Lowell river Wednesday morning. Divers pulled the body from the water near Jackson Street and the Lowell courthouse. The area by the canal was blocked off as crews attempted to remove the car. A portion of the fence along the canal was missing. One man said he saw the broken fence at 6:17 a.m. and reported it to the Department of Public Works. Then, he saw emergency crews at the scene.
